Before taking on my 4th Bupa Great North Run, I thought I would beneft from seeing a physiotherapist at the Bupa Centre in Barbican. It was very worthwhile as Kate checked which areas were tight and in need of extra stretching, demonstrating various exercises to help. Also, checked what type of runner I was so I knew if I was wearing the correct trainer to suit my style of running.
Kate reminded me of the importance of core strength for running which many of us (including me!) forget about. It is so important to keep your core strong so your lower back doesn't have to compensate.
All in all I wasn't in too bad a shape, mainly very tight on my calves and achilles. Good to know to improve my stretching techniques now to hopefully help prevent future injuries. Would definately recommend it!
